How to Give a Foot Massage Like a Pro

A foot massage is known as a good way of relaxing the whole body and as a therapy for relieving stress, insomnia, and even headaches. The massage is based on rubbing, applying pressure and stimulating the nerve endings of the feet and toes. Before beginning the massage, it is good to warm up both feet to stimulate the blood flow, and lightly stretch each foot to relax the joints.

Follow these steps to unsure the ultimate foot massage.

Step 1

Start by rubbing the top of the foot with your thumbs, from the tip of the toe to the ankle and back, applying firm pressure and cupping the foot in your hands. Repeat this a few times.

Step 2

Massage the arches of the foot. Place your thumbs on the arch and lightly apply pressure, make circles with both thumbs, going in the opposite directions. Then put your thumbs on the opposite ends of the foot and move them toward one another, as well as moving up and down the feet.

Step 3

Using circular motions, rub the heel of the foot. If the skin on this area is dry or hard, massage oil or lotion can be useful. Massage the Achilles tendon (runs from the heel and ankle up to the calf muscle) by moving your thumbs up and down.

Step 4

Squeeze and pull each toe. Start from the big toe, placing your thumb on the top, and your pointer finger underneath. Slightly pull and rotate the toe from the top to the bottom, then go back and gently squeeze it. Repeat this with each toe. Then slide up and down between each toe with your thumb and pointer finger.

Step 5

A massage of the ankles and soles is next. Start by rotating your hand and applying pressure under the ankle with your thumb and pointer finger. Apply circular movements with you fist against the sole, like making dough. This will help relax the foot.

Finally, after massaging both feet, soak them in the warm water. Prepare a bowl of water with sliced fruit such as lemons, limes, or oranges, a few drops of your favorite essential oil and one tablespoon of sea salt. Soak both feet for a few minutes.

Dry the feet with a soft cloth.  Once the feet are dry, apply a small amount of oil or lotion to make the skin soft and smooth.

Having a foot massage once a week will have an excellent impact on your overall health.
